Screening of “Sand and Sorrow”

“Sand and Sorrow” is a shocking documentary about Darfur narrated by George Clooney. The screening was organized by JWW Youth Activist and Board Member Shelby Layne, and benefited JWW.

Lobby Day in Sacramento

JWW, the Save Darfur Coalition, Genocide Intervention Network, and the American Jewish Committee for a California State organized a Senate Lobby Day in support of AB 498, which prevents the state of California from entering into contracts with companies that help fund the genocide in Darfur. The event included presentations on the legislation, lobby training, meetings with legislators and a partial screening of Darfur Now. After the training, participants set out on meetings that JWW and Save Darfur arranged with their elected officials.

Olympic Vigil

On the eve of the Beijing Olympic Games, JWW held a vigil at the Los Angeles Chinese Consulate to urge the Chinese government to act on behalf of Darfur. This was the last in a series of monthly vigils held outside the Chinese Consulate ahead of the Olympic Games.

A Joint Commemoration of the Shoah and the Armenian Genocide, hosted by His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate, Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America. The event honored Rabbi Harold M. Schulweis.
