Take Action!

We urge you to use your Matzah Set’s Afikomen Card (Card #2) to take action to end genocide – but even more can be done!

Sudanese President Omar al Bashir has recently escalated the crisis in Darfur by expelling 13 aid organizations – leaving millions of lives hanging in the balance.

We need your urgent help now!

Breaking News: Our phone calls, text messages and emails have worked – President Obama has appointed retired Air Force General Scott Gration as his Special Envoy to Sudan! Gration has close ties to the President, forged during a 15-day tour of Africa he took with then-Senator Obama last August. The son of missionary parents, General Gration grew up in the Congo, and has had a very distinguished military career, including oversight of the no-fly zone in Iraq.

But this is only a first step! While President Obama has clearly heard our outraged voices, the humanitarian situation in Darfur continues to deteriorate.

TAKE ACTION!

There's great potential in General Gration – but to make a significant impact, he'll need a full diplomatic team behind him and the full support of the Obama administration. We also need President Obama to work towards international targeted sanctions against key Sudanese officials, a comprehensive arms embargo on all of Sudan, and the full deployment of UNAMID peacekeepers.

» Call President Obama at 202-456-1111 and demand he take action! A sample script is below:

“My name is _____, and I am calling to thank you for naming General Gration as Special Envoy to Sudan. General Gration must have your full support, along with a full diplomatic team working to achieve a just and lasting peace in Darfur and secure the full implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement. I also ask that you work towards achieving international targeted sanctions against key Sudanese officials, a comprehensive arms embargo on all of Sudan, and the full deployment of UNAMID peacekeepers. You must also support the use of UNAMID to distribute aid.”

» Text Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at 90822 to make sure she knows ending the crisis in Darfur must be a top priority. Let her know that she must support the ICC arrest warrants, work towards sanctions and work towards a comprehensive arms embargo. You can also call Secretary Clinton by dialing 202-647-5291.

» Email Ambassador Susan Rice and let her know that she must continue to support the ICC arrest warrant and further work with UN Security Council officials to build pressure on the government of Sudan. Click here to send postcard!

» Walk for Darfur – Walk to End Genocide!

Sunday, June 7 2009

Our upcoming Walk for Darfur – Walk to End Genocide is one of the largest anti-genocide rallies nationwide each year. Last year we brought out 1400 people, and this year we’re hoping for twice that number! Walking together shows our leaders two things: That combating and preventing genocide – whether in Darfur, Congo or anywhere – is a priority for the American public, and that the grassroots community supports them in acting decisively to end genocide. Join us on June 7!

Register for the Walk for Darfur – Walk to End Genocide today!

Want to talk about the Walk for Darfur at your Seder? JWW can provide you with Walk brochures to distribute to your Seder guests – use this opportunity to begin building your Walk team! Contact us at info@jewishworldwatch.org or (818) 501-1836 for brochures.
