Olympic Dream for Darfur National Torch Run |

JWW lead the team (with the Save Darfur Coalition and Olympic Dream for Darfur) for the Los Angeles leg of their Torch Relay, a nation-wide event highlighting China's unique responsibility to lead the world in ending the genocide in Darfur. Over 150 activists joined us as we passed the torch between survivors of past genocides and Olympic athletes, and called on China to "Bring the Olympic Dream to Darfur."

Mitzvah Day |

This Mitzvah Day synagogues throughout Los Angeles worked to support of the JWW Backpack Project.
The Backpack Project was created so that children in the Oure Cassoni refugee camp in Chad could attend schools run by our partner, the International Rescue Committee. Filled with shoes, books, school supplies, soap and toothpaste, the backpacks allow each child to make the most of school under the most difficult of circumstances. |

After taking part in interactive educational and advocacy activities, campers at Camp Ramah and Camp JCA Shalom were treated to an exciting and inspirational concert - including the original song, "Act Out Loud" - that will encourage year round youth activism. |

Join us for a screening of this powerful documentary, which traces the stories of three of the 25,000 "lost boys" who fled villages, formed surrogate families and sought refuge from famine, diseases, wild animals and attacks from government soldiers during the Second Sudanese Civil War. The screening benefits the Lost Boys and Lost Girls Organization (www.lostboysandlostgirls.org), which facilitates services and manages programs for the betterment of the lives of the Lost Boys & Girls in the Diaspora.

Former West L.A. resident, Dr. Bob Linden and his wife, Maureen Orr, FNP, joined Doctors Without Borders and accepted an assignment to work in West Darfur, Sudan in 2006, during the genocide. Their photo presentation will include their experience.

WALK FOR DARFUR
On June 3rd, 400 members of the community joined Jewish World Watch to raise awareness, hope and support for the survivors of the Darfur genocide. The three-mile walk on Sunday, June 3 raised over $14,000 for JWW education and advocacy projects and toward aid for refugees escaping violence in Darfur. |

Widely lauded since its debut at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, this fantastic documentary tells the story of an American witness to genocide, former U.S. Marine, Brian Steidle, who served as an African Union military observer in Darfur, Sudan for six months in 2004 and 2005. June 2 screenings of this film will benefit the work of Jewish World Watch, a funder of the film. |
