After national and legislative elections widely panned as fraudulent, Congo’s leaders now face a dramatic crisis of legitimacy. Having neglected the electoral process thus far, the international community – with the US at the helm – is now challenged with helping Congo reach an equitable, internally-designed solution for moving forward that respects both the political intentions of the Congolese people and the integrity of the democratic process.
